MISSION
STATEMENT
James L. Day Middle School will
provide all students a challenging education, promoting high academic
standards, life-long learning, and personal responsibility, fostered by a
partnership with parents and community.
POSITIVE
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
At Day Middle School our goal is to provide each
student with a challenging education with high
standards that prepares them for continuing on to high
school and beyond. We have literacy and math labs at
each grade level for students having a hard time with
the curriculum. After school, students can stay and receive extra help in one of our math tutorials or
in one of the homework clubs, which are designed to give students a place to get a start on their homework
with support from a teacher. Our counselors meet with students and parents daily to provide educational
and emotional support. Student Study Teams (SST) meet weekly to discuss students who are at risk.

QUALITY
OF INSTRUCTION |
TVUSD
aligns its curriculum with state standards and
provides enrichment activities at the site
level to support instruction. The District
also holds a philosophy that each school
principal should be the Instructional Leader
on that campus.
As such, principals take an active role in the
learning process at each TVUSD school,
spending much of their day in the classroom.
TVUSD teachers are evaluated and given areas
for improvement by their principals. To aide
in this endeavor, administrators are trained
in evaluation skills.
This training is designed to help
administrators evaluate their staff in a
manner that will produce better teaching in
the classroom and thus enhance student
success. Staff development days enhance this
quest for excellence by giving teachers the
tools needed to succeed in an on-going manner.

PARENT
INVOLVEMENT
Contact: Gwynne Cuny
- 699-8138 ext. 1164
At James L. Day Middle School parents are considered an integral part
of the educational team. We have a large and active PTSA whose
parents support Day Middle School through fund raising efforts and by
volunteering their time in the office and in the classrooms. Our School
Site Council parent members were nominated and then elected to serve
on the site council.
